    Dallas Bridal Show: Review

On January 27-28, at Dallas Market Hall, the Dallas Bridal Show hosted over 3,000 brides (2,270 of which registered) out of a total of 9,500 attendees (Includes paid adults, grooms, children, Sunday 1/2 price coupons, VIP tickets, and badged exhibitors). Around 350 companies benefited from meeting one-on-one with potential customers and gained a valuable lead source to work for months to come! Thanks to everyone who helped to make this a successful show, but keep in mind although the show is over, the work is just beginning. Design a plan to continually follow-up on your leads in order to keep your company name on the fore-front of their minds as they make various wedding plans over the next year(s).

    Congratulations!

Naomi's Notes: Are you too comfortable?
    by Naomi Hulme
    Naomi

Many times, business owners become satisfied with the way things are going and sit back and relax. Don't ignore the fact that there is a time and a place to take a vacation, to help your body & mind relax a bit. Even though that is important each year, that is not what this article is about.

Be careful of getting too comfortable in your business. This is a good way to kill a business. To avoid getting too comfortable, aspire to the following guidelines:

    • Stay on guard to watch over and protect your business.
    • Be open and on the lookout for new ideas and new opportunities each day.
    • Be aware and pay attention.
    • Read and learn as much as you can each day.
    • Stay updated on things happening in and outside of your industry.
    • Work hard to consciously improve your memory.
    • Think constantly and utilize your brain to its fullest!

I recently did some research on the human brain and there are some fascinating facts and figures concerning our most important organ. As business owners we are constantly stretching our brains to create new and unique ideas. Did you know there are 100 billion nerouns in the brain for you to use to your full potential? Check out the following websites for more information: www.thethinkingbusiness.com, www.brainconnection.com, and others.

By not becoming comfortable, you are always alert to new improvements. This helps you to grow, stay ahead, and become better today than yesterday. As Robert Slater's book title says "Get Better or Get Beaten!"

    NEW Bride Survey

We are still compiling all of the responses and will send a review of the results this week to all the exhibitors in the January Dallas Bridal Show. If you were not in the Dallas Bridal Show but would like to see the results or you are thinking about exhibiting in the future and are curious as to what the brides said, please contact us at info@bridalshowsinc.com and we will be happy to send you a copy.

    The 99.5 Wolf Valentine's Wedding

After two tours of duty to Iraq, Billy was ready to marry the girl of his dreams, Jessica. The two had been planning a wedding for the summer of 2007 when Billy got the call for a third tour. Understandably both were devastated and Jessica was determined to not let Billy go back to Iraq without her being his wife. With only a few days to plan a wedding during the busiest time of the year, Billy and Jessica were determined to have a Valentine's Day wedding.

When Jessica's cousin contacted the Wake Up with The Wolf Morning show Monday February 12th asking for help, the Wolf immediately responded to make the wedding happen live on the air! Meanwhile Naomi of Bridal Shows, Inc. was driving to work listening to the morning show and being touched by the couples' plight knew that the vendors from the Fort Worth and Dallas Bridal Shows could help this special couple.

Sure enough several of our vendors stepped up to the plate last minute to create a memorable Valentine's Day wedding.

A very special thanks goes out to the following companies:

    • Dwayne with Southern Flair Photography-- photography
    • Denice and Rochelle with Wrapped Around You-- decorations
    • Ryan with Blink Media--videography
    • Ruthie with Delicious Cakes--cake
    • Barbara with Flowers of Las Colinas--bridal bouquet and boutonnieres
    • Don with Premier Transportation--limo service

Whenever opportunities like this come along we are on a very tight time schedule to put everything together and we appreciate everyone that jumped so quickly to make this happen.

Bridal Shows, Inc. had the privilege of working with Pat for many years. Her positive attitude made her a joy to work with and we will always remember her.

Naomi's Notes: Are You A Professional?
    by Naomi Hulme
    Naomi

Do you consider yourself to be a professional? Do others consider you to be a professional? What comes to mind when you think about whether you or someone else is a professional?

In Webster’s, the definition of “professional” reads as follows: of, engaged in, or worthy of the high standards of a profession, designating or of a school, esp. a graduate school, offering instruction in a profession, earning one’s living from an activity, such as a sport, not normally thought of as an occupation, engaged in by professional players, engaged in a specified occupation for pay or as a means of livelihood, being such in the manner of one practicing a profession, a person who engages in some art, sport, etc. for money, esp. as a means of livelihood, rather than as a hobby, a person who does something with great skill.

Hopefully, some of the following questions will get you to thinking and re-evaluating your thoughts and ideas.

    • Do you set your goals higher than you can accomplish this year? This week? Today? Why set your goals for something you know you can do? Do you complete those projects on time and on budget?
    • Do you continue to seek knowledge? You probably have heard the phrase “knowledge is power.” Just because you may not be required to do “continued education,” should you? Our society and industry is ever-changing, so we have to keep learning and gain more wisdom today than yesterday. (“Wisdom is not a product of schooling but of the life long attempt to acquire it,” by Albert Einstein)
    • Do you consider yourself an optimist? (“An optimist is someone who goes after Moby Dick in a rowboat and takes the tartar sauce with him,” by Zig Ziglar) (“A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty,” by Sir Winston Churchill)
    • Are you a person of excellence?
    • Are you honest? Ethical? Accountable?
    • Are you helping to set a higher standard for your industry?
    • Do you plan ahead? What do your “to-do” lists look like?
    • Do you budget appropriately?
    • How are you with managing your time? One of our speakers for the trade show, Sarah Zink, will not be able to speak at this upcoming event unless something changes. She has a great newsletter that she sends out. Her March newsletter titled “Stop Chasing the Clock!” is something you might want to read. Her website is www.sarahzink.com.
    • Do you have an attitude of helping others accomplish their goals?
    • How are you in making tough decisions? Not everyone will agree with you in all of your decisions— just accept that. Sometimes you have to shake up your business a little to move forward.
    • What order are your priorities? Who and what fits in to those priorities? God? Work? Family? Friends? Yourself?

If we pay attention to striving always to be a better professional, we will know what to do and what not to do. We will make some mistakes along the way and that is okay. A professional learns from those mistakes and moves forward and does the right thing the next time.

Speaking of being a professional in the Wedding Industry, A new book that you will want to read is titled, “The Best Wedding Reception--Ever!” In talking with the author, Peter Merry, you can go to the website www.thebestweddingreceptionever.com and link to Amazon.com to purchase the book. Even though the main focus is for the wedding reception, this is a book that you will want to recommend to brides so they can understand the need to hire a professional in every aspect of the wedding, and then use your services, of course. It will also help you to rethink how serious you are in the business that you have.

    Enjoy being a professional!

    Wedding Industry Trade Show

    Wed. and Thurs.
    May 16-17, 2007 Plano Centre

By now everyone should have heard about the 2nd annual Wedding Industry Trade Show on May 16-17, 2007 at the Plano Centre.

Because this is still a fairly new event there has been some confusion as to what the trade show is. Unlike a consumer show (such as the bridal shows), the Wedding Industry Trade Show is closed to the public and all the speakers and exhibitors are geared towards building and marketing your bridal business.

It is a two-day business to business conference full of educational opportunities for the wedding professional! The very affordable admission price of $49.00 per person includes 8 informative seminars, networking opportunities, and an exhibit floor featuring businesses ready to help you grow. You also have the option of purchasing the catered lunch at which table- topic discussions will be held.

Plan on being there and be there the entire two days for an educational experience unlike any other.

We are currently taking registrations, so sign up today to attend! Visit the website to download the registration form and fax it to us at 972-713-9996 as soon as possible.

Feel free to contact us with any questions related to the trade show. We are very excited about how this conference will build the industry, and help you build your business.

    Happy Anniversary Tracy!

Tracy Kopinski has been with Bridal Shows, Inc. 4 years as of March 23! Tracy helps keep us running smoothly as our Administrative Manager and a part- time Account Executive. Next time you talk to Tracy be sure to thank her for all of her hard work.

    We appreciate you Tracy!

"Your Success is Down to You!"

    by: Robert Warlow,
    Small Business Success

With stock market values, concerns over pensions and house prices, we have plenty of things to keep us awake at night! But a lot of us have more mundane things to get worked up about – the advertising campaign which doesn’t appear to be working, margins getting squeezed, the customer who took up hours of your time and never bought anything, your van breaking down just when you needed it most, no cash in the Bank!

Who is to blame for all of these misfortunes? The usual response is the Government, the tax man, the ungrateful customer, the mechanic, your next door neighbor, your partner. Everyone else in the world is to blame except -- you! All too quickly you try and find someone else to blame for our little problems in life. You find reasons to justify why it has nothing to do with you.

What people don’t realize is that by continually blaming ‘them’ you are actually preventing yourself from moving forward, trapped in a spiral of negativity, forever the victim. All success-focused people take personal responsibility for the events that happen to them, for the decisions they make. They understand that by not taking responsibility they will never resolve anything. They have a belief that everything they have in life, good or bad, is as a result of their actions. As a result, they never stop still; they never pause to lay blame; they are continually moving forward, not being held back by ‘them’.

So what can you do to start accepting responsibility for what happens in your life and regain control? Next time, before you start blaming others pause and ask, “What have I contributed to produce this result?” And then more importantly, ask, “What can I do to put it right or stop it happening again?”

Always take responsibility for what you have in your life and give yourself the opportunity and permission to grow. Be responsible for your own success!

    April 20, 2007

    Greetings!

To say "April Showers" this month would be an understatement! In Texas weather tradition, this month has been completely unpredictable. From snow, hail, thunderstorms, massive winds, and in some cases tornadoes, this month has kept us all guessing what will happen next! We do hope everyone has stayed safe and managed to get through any weddings altered by the weather.

Although sometimes it is difficult to tell what season we are in, it is indeed spring, and for Texans that means summer is only a breath away. Summer is easily the busy season for wedding businesses but don't forget to prepare for the slow times by exhibiting in this summer's bridal shows to have leads to work throughout the fall and spring of next year.

    • How do you advertise the show?
    • Cost of exhibiting, decorating, electrical?
    • Any other opportunities?

    Start Up Shows

    • How will you advertise the show? Be specific.
    • How much do you plan on spending for advertising?
    • Call the facility and make sure this producer has a contract with a paid deposit in place. (If answer is no...red flag!)

    The #1 Mistake Made Dealing
    With Angry Customers

Many of you have to deal with "bridezillas" on a daily basis. This article may help give you some insight on how to help deal with angry customers.

    By Robert Bacal, M.A.

We all deal with angry customers, and it's enough to drive people up the wall. Angry and difficult customers are a major cause of workplace stress, and they eat up huge amounts of your time and the resources of your organization. There are a lot of tricks and techniques you can use to deal with an angry customer, and we'll cover a number of them in future editions of the Help @ Work Customer Service File. For now, let's focus on the most common mistake employees make when dealing with the hostile, difficult or angry customer. By avoiding this particular error, you can save yourself a lot of stress and time.

    The #1 Mistake
When you are faced with an angry customer, you probably assume that the customer wants his or her "problem" fixed. That's a logical approach and it's at least partly true. Angry customers expect that you will be able to help them in some concrete way, by meeting their want or need. However, there's more to the story.

Ever notice that with a really angry person, even if you can "fix" the problem, the person still acts in angry or nasty ways? Why is that? Well, actually angry customers want several things. Yes, they want the problem fixed, but they also want to BE HEARD, TO BE LISTENED TO, and to have their upset and emotional state recognized and acknowledged.

What most employees do with angry customers is move immediately to solve the problem without giving that acknowledgment. Do you know what happens? The customer is so angry that he or she isn't prepared to work to solve the problem, doesn't listen, and gets in the way of solving the problem. So the number one error is moving to solve the problem before the customer is "ready", or calm enough to work with the employee. The result is the employee has to repeat things over and over (since the customer didn't hear), and has to ask the same questions over and over. And that's what drives people nuts.

    The Solution
The solution is to follow this general rule: When faced with an angry customer, FIRST focus on acknowledging the feelings and upset of the customer. Once the customer starts to calm down as a result of having his or her feelings recognized, THEN move to solving the problem. You'll find that this will save you a lot of time and energy.

Here are a few phrases you can use:

    • It seems like you're pretty upset about this and I don't blame you. Let's see what we can do.
    • It has to be frustrating to have to return a faulty product.
    • Most people would be angry if their hotel reservation got lost and they were stuck.

Make sure you address the feelings first, THEN move to fix the problem. You must do both.

  • Wedding Industry Trade Show : Review

On May 16-17 wedding professionals from around the Metroplex attended the 2nd Annual Wedding Industry Trade Show at the Plano Centre. We are proud to say the event was a success and helped many companies learn ways to build their business. The best way to express the benefits from the show is to share some of the feedback from attendees and exhibitors.

    From the Attendees:

    • The speakers both gave us ideas and revitalized us on our business.
    • Great resource for making industry contacts.
    • I feel recharged and ready to go back to work with a great attitude and new ideas of how to better myself professionally for my clients.
    • I'm jazzed and ready to sell more.
    • The speakers were very informative and there were several vendors that I felt could grow my business.
    • I am glad I attended this show. My business will definitely benefit and prosper from all of my connections. It is often too easy to get caught up in working that you forget to actually think about how to make your business grow in order to better service your customers. This was a wonderful experience and opportunity. Thank you! P.S. Bonnie did a wonderful job! (Everyone else was super friendly and helpful too!!-Thanks!)
    • This show gave everyone a really "connected" feeling throughout. Thank you!
    • I gained some invaluable information and was re-energized to implement this in my job.
    • Met some new people, made good contacts.
    • Loved the table talks.
    • Helpful with solid leads, professional people, and very well done.
    • I learned a lot from the speakers about how to market my business.
    • I learned a lot about an industry that I'm new to. Marketing, Publicity, etc. Made great contacts and new friends.
    • I got a ton of good information and made lots of new friends.
    • The seminars and speakers all had a win, win attitude. In this business you have to think big and positive. I appreciated all the reinforcements and timeless truths discussed.

    From the Exhibitors:

"(Your staff) carried on the show with professionalism and enthusiasm. I'm really glad PicFlips was able to be a part of your show this year. We were very pleased....The roundtables were very helpful in getting ideas from our peers and experts on the subjects...."

    ~Amy Kelly, PicFlips

On behalf of the Officers and members of AWP, I would like to thank you for inviting AWP to participate in the recent Wedding Industry Trade Show. This was a new venture for us and I feel it went very well for us. We were able to sign up several new members, and we have expectations that several more will join as well."

Dwayne Lee, Association of Wedding Professionals

"I had such a nice time with you all last week at the (trade show). You, James, and everyone else who put that together really did a great job. I'm looking forward to giving you the results of my follow up calls with the leads I got."

    Treta Sellers, Ackley Financial Group

Curious to know what all the fuss is about? Be on the lookout for information about next year's Wedding Industry Trade Show. We will be searching for a different location every year so everyone across the Metroplex has the opportunity to attend.

No matter how busy we get, everyone can benefit from an energy boost to move them along. Plan on the Wedding Industry Trade Show to help motivate you and your team every year! Make it a yearly tradition to attend. For any ideas or questions about this event please contact James at james@bridalshowsinc.com.

    Naomi's Notes: "Knowledge is Power"
    by:Naomi Hulme
    Naomi

Thank you to everyone that attended our recent Wedding Industry Trade Show on May 16-17 as well as those exhibiting companies that participated. Unfortunately I was unable to be there for most of the event due to illness.

I want to personally thank my team for doing a superb job of handling everything at the show. It is very rewarding to have such a great team with wonderful positive attitudes who can take care of things when I can't be there. Thank you James for taking care of so many behind the scenes things that I normally handle myself. Thank you Bonnie for doing the program, all of the announcing for the speakers, the door prizes, and especially for pinch-hitting for me by presenting the Exhibiting 101 seminar. Thank you Tracy, Tiffany, Leah, Betty, and Ruthie for handling registration, the show office booths, and all the many other tasks that took place.

Those of you that know me know that I love to read and constantly educate myself. Many of the speakers at the Wedding Industry Trade Show spoke about the importance of reading. Business owners must make time to read up on new sales techniques, latest trends in the industry, motivational techniques, stress and time management, customer services, advertising and publicity advice, etc. Never stop the process of learning---knowledge is power!

I made a challenge to the attendees at the Wedding Industry Trade Show to read at least 10 new books this year. We have put together some inspiration bookmarks for you to use to track each business related book you read. After reading 10 books (you have to read the books completely), call me at 972- 713- 9920 for a prize!

For those avid book readers like myself, I will be conducting a contest for whoever can read the most books starting from May 17, 2007, until next year's Wedding Industry Trade Show.

If you would like for us to mail you a "Knowledge is Power" bookmark along with a list of suggested books to read, please email us at info@bridalshowsinc.com with "BOOKMARK" in the subject title.

For those of you that would like to check out books from my personal library, please feel free to stop by. We would love to see you!

    "4 Great Business Card Ideas"

    By: Robert Warlow

How often have you opened your office drawer to find a pen only to have to search your way through a pile of business cards collected over the past few months? Your immediate response is to throw them away and that's the problem with business cards- they are usually unmemorable.

Here are some ideas on how you can make your business card a bit more useful.

    Handy Web Sites
On the reverse of your card, why not list some web sites which your clients may find of use. They don't have to be related to your line of business, for example you could print details on a site providing a list of jokes (useful for speech writing!).

    Do You Remember?
Going to a networking event is the equivalent to a business card swapping club! Once your card goes into someone's drawer they are unlikely to remember where you met. So on the back of the card, print "Do you remember we met at ________and discussed __________" This should be a good memory jogger!

    Print Your Picture
Our minds are more efficient at remembering pictures than words. Why not print your picture on your card? When the recipient looks at your card sometime later, he is much more likely to remember who you are and what you do.

    What's The Date?
People are always scratching around to find out what the date is. Print a calendar on the reverse of your card. This gives an excuse for someone to keep your card permanently in his pocket.

Take a fresh look at your business card and see what you can do to make it more memorable.

    Greetings!

The hot Texas sun is upon us and summer is now in full swing. We hope everyone is busy with weddings and understand how hectic things can get during these summer months. We are busy preparing for our two bridal shows next month, the Dallas Bridal Show on July 14-15 and the Fort Worth Bridal Show on July 21-22.

Sometimes it is hard to see the need for marketing when you are so busy you can hardly keep up. Many companies make the mistake of skipping the summer bridal shows due to hectic schedules and overbooked weekends. Keep in mind that the marketing you do now at the bridal shows will help you get through the slow autumn months. If there is any way you can hire extra staff to keep you from missing out on the bridal shows now, you will thank yourself later!

Naomi's Notes: Stress Can Be A Great Motivator
    by:Naomi Hulme
    Naomi

When managed properly, stress can create positive results. We all experience various levels of stress, and some handle those levels differently. In committing yourself to running a business or working for someone and doing your best, it creates a lot of demand on a person's physical and mental drive. How we deal with these demands is up to us. There are natural responses to stress which are triggered by reactions in the brain. Books on stress management explain the phases that we go through when stress happens. The heart pumps faster and blood is increased. According to Michael T. Murray, N.D.'s book "Stress, Anxiety & Insomnia," "while the effects of adrenal cortex hormones are quite necessary when the body is faced with danger, prolongation of the resistance reaction due to continued stress increases the risk of significant disease, including diabetes, high blood pressure, and cancer, and results in the final stage of the general adaptation syndrome, exhaustion." Be careful of too much of the wrong stress. This can do some damage.

Prepare for stress. It is going to happen anyway, so why not get ready for it and be prepared ahead of time before it happens? Each stressful situation can be another learning opportunity. We can get past whatever stressed us by recognizing it and figuring out a way to get through it as easily as possible. Practice what you find works for you and add other stress management principles each time so that you have different ideas to use and help reduce those stressful times. Hopefully by doing so, you will find it to be easier each time.

Remain calm when you feel stressed about anything. Try to think clearly and breathe deeply--a lot. Many times it may not be as bad as we thought. We want to take care of our mind and body so that we can handle any situation that arises with a positive outlook and a calm demeanor.

Being grateful helps reduce stress because it makes us focus on our blessings instead of focusing on the stress.

Celebrate any achievement, even if it is small.

Smile. Take a long walk with someone you love. Watch a funny movie. Take a bubble bath. Read a calming book. Listen to soft music.

Take breaks when you can. Sometimes you are right on a deadline and cannot just stop, but concentrate on finding time for relaxing your mind. Breaks help rejuvenate your body and mind so that you can feel refreshed and pumped again to get back out there.

It is very helpful to take time away from work, even if they are a few days here and there. Taking a real vacation to get away from the norm at least once a year is vital. Your mind and body will start adjusting to knowing that is going to happen and relieves some of the daily stress just knowing that this real vacation is going to take place each year. During that vacation, your whole being adjusts to "It's okay to take some time for me." It really does help you to come back refreshed with even more ideas.

If you are like me and your mind will not shut up, even at night, you probably have a difficult time sleeping. Doing without caffeine has helped tremendously. Since Christmas time (Bonnie gave me this idea), I have found that if I read something totally different than a business book, like a novel or a magazine, on some nights for about 20 to 30 minutes, that it shifts my mind from business and puts it into another non-thinking frame of mind. If I cannot sleep all night, I get up and write things down. Many ideas have come to me during those short sleep nights over the years. From many years of this, I have accumulated so many ideas that we have used, which some have turned into the workbook and seminars, and now I have a book in progress. So you see, even though this is a challenge, something very good has come out of it.

Stress can motivate us to get things done quick, on time, tasks completed, etc. Work at completing as many useful tasks as you can each day and crossing them off the list. Knowing your priorities daily and going through that list will keep you on track better. Focusing on each task until it is done will definitely relieve some stress. Don't think about the whole pile, just the task at hand. Some people have to move the pile elsewhere so that it does not keep calling at them while they are doing one task--Whatever works for you.

Take a real break after a long period of consuming stress.

Sometimes, stress is caused by a fear that we have at that moment. Take your fears by the horns and find the purpose in overcoming whatever fear it is. You will feel much better and healthier.

If change is to happen to relieve any stress, change what you can and accept what you cannot change. Remember the Serenity Prayer?

"Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference."

    Other Books on Stress:
"Stress Free for Good," by Dr. Fred Luskin and Dr. Kenneth R. Pelletier.
"Stress Reduction for Busy People," by Dawn Groves

    Constant Contact Email Marketing

As email marketing is becoming more and more popular many people are turning to companies that assist in the email campaign process. You will find that there are many options to choose from when using a mass email service. Bridal Shows, Inc. has been a customer of Constant Contact for over a year and a half and we have found an increase in success and efficiency as a result of it. Many other companies in our industry have begun using this service as well and occasionally they will ask for advice concerning the company.

Just a Few Benefits of Constant Contact:

    • Create professional looking emails that include your company logo, photos, and links to various websites.
    • For me, the highest benefit is how quickly you are able to stay in touch with thousands of contacts.
    • Offer Coupons or discounts via email
    • Convert mailing lists easily to Constant Contact Groups
    • Allow your contacts to "unsubscribe" if no longer interested in receiving emails
    Constant Contact Tips:
    • Use colorful images and photos to attract attention
    • Keep your message as brief as possible for highest readability
    • Track the activity from your email campaign through the "Reports" provided by Constant Contact
    • If mailing to a large list, include a disclaimer at the top of your email reminding recipients about how you received their information. (This helps reduce spam reports which I will touch on more in a minute)
    • Use the campaign to draw activity to your website. Always encourage traffic with a link!
    • Use the Spell Check tool and have someone double check your work before sending
    • Include a link on your website to "Add to Mailing List"

Another benefit of Constant Contact is that they are a highly reputable company that protects against spam mail. Because of this they will track any spam alerts that are raised by your recipients. We have learned that when you are sending to a high volume of brides you must always remember the following three rules:

    1. Include a Disclaimer. Give the brides the opportunity to unsubscribe and remind them of how you got their information
    2. Keep lists current. Delete old lists unless they are clients you wish to continue doing business with. Brides from one to two years ago may see your email as spam because they are already married.
    3. Check your Email Reports to keep track of Spam Alarms. Constant Contact allows for 1 spam alarm for every 1,000 recipients. If you are over this number, call their help line for further advice.

Overall I have been impressed by Constant Contact's User-Friendly site and great customer service. If you have any questions regarding Bridal Shows, Inc.'s use of Constant Contact please feel free to call me at 972-713-9920 ext. 105

  • Dallas and Fort Worth Bridal Shows were a success!

All the fun, mayhem, and hysteria of back to back Dallas and Fort Worth Bridal Shows has come to an end but the success to be found from the shows is just beginning.

We want to take this opportunity to thank all of the wonderful exhibitors that made these events possible and especially those that went two weekends in a row to receive the benefits from both the Dallas Bridal Show and Fort Worth Bridal Show!

At the Dallas Bridal Show on July 14-15, located at Dallas Market Hall, nearly 300 companies joined together to meet face to face with almost 2,000 brides (out of which over 1,300 registered) to promote their services and book future events. We heard from many long-time customers that this was the best July show they had ever had. Every year we work hard to grow each show through aggressive marketing campaigns and we plan for next July to be even better. Once again we want to thank 106.1 Kiss FM for sponsoring the show.

The following weekend the Fort Worth Bridal Show, held on July 21-22 at the Amon Carter Exhibit Hall, over 120 businesses had the opportunity to talk with nearly 1,000 brides (out of which over 700 registered) about how they could help to achieve the perfect wedding. We were proud to have with us our sponsors, Fort Worth, Texas Magazine and 103.7 lite fm, as well as CBS 11.

We are very blessed to receive positive feedback from our customers, verbally and sometimes written. Below are two testimonials given to us last weekend.

    To Bridal Shows, Inc.

Thank you for well organized shows in Fort Worth and Dallas. It is obvious that you strive to establish and maintain good relationships with your vendors as evidenced from the prompt helpers at the loading docks and staff "walk throughs" during the show.

See you again in six months.

    Best Regards,
    Heartsong Productions

I attended my first Bridal Show as an exhibitor in July of 2006 and from February of 2007 through July of 2007 I did more business from that show than from my entire year last year. As a home based business I can't imagine how great the benefits would be if I had a store front. I would highly recommend the Fort Worth Bridal Show to any wedding vendor.

If you would like to submit a testimonial please email news@bridalshowsinc.com with "Testimonial" in the subject line.

Stay tuned to the following websites for pictures to be updated in the near future. We are working on putting photographs up from the recent shows.

Plano Bridal Show, Closing out Soon!

Time is running out to reserve your booth at the Plano Bridal Show on September 16! Unlike our other bridal shows, our space is very limited at the Plano Centre and we are forced to close out booth space for the show every time. Many categories are already closed but there is some space availability left at the time of this newsletter.

The Plano Bridal Show is our smallest bridal show of the year but has gained a lot of popularity from being located in a high-end market and also allowing for more one-on-one time with each attendee.

If you are interested in becoming an exhibitor, please call us today at 972-713-9920 to find out if your category is still open.

Naomi's Notes: "What Do You Do When Your 'To-Do' List is Way Too Long?"
    by:Naomi Hulme
    Naomi

Throw it away? No, sorry, that's not going to magically make it all go away.

Sometimes we can feel so overwhelmed that we would like to tear the list up, but then we would stress over what we can't remember that we wrote down.

Even though it is a good idea to have a "Master List," which keeps growing every day, it is helpful to take each day and look at your main three to five priorities. Write these on a small list and work on each item until you have finished those few main priorities.

Those daily accomplishments help you to feel great and give you more confidence in adding a few smaller to-do items to finish in that same day.

You know that you cannot get everything done in one day that you need to anyway, so accept the fact that there will be a new "next day" list to work on tomorrow, and so on.

Be thankful that you have so much to do--that's a good thing. The alternative is having nothing to do and being bored--who wants that kind of situation? Okay, maybe once a year when you take that yearly vacation!

We all work so hard to build our business, and in doing so, it creates more things to do and more things to do better. The list goes on and on. Let's be glad we have a lengthy "to-do" list.

You can now cross off "Read Bridal Shows, Inc. Newsletter." Now go do one other thing on your list and cross it off too!

    Have fun doing!

Vendor Spotlight: Just For You Custom Creations

Judy McAlvey, owner of Just For You Custom Creations, has been a constant at all of our bridal shows for over 15 years. Not only has Judy participated as an exhibitor to promote her business but has also delighted our attendees with her fashion shows.

Judy has won many awards for her designs over the years but most recently won first place in the category of "Most Interesting Wardrobe" at the American Sewing Guild Creativity Contest sponsored by Simplicity Patterns. Our congratulations go out to Judy who accepted her award in Sacramento, California last Saturday, July 28.

Located in DeSoto, Texas, Just For You Custom Creations designs bridal apparel to create the dream dress for brides, bridesmaids, flower girls, mother of the bride, and more!

    Dear Reader,

I have over 30 years of experience designing and custom making wedding attire. I started sewing when I was five years old and made my first wedding gown at the age of 18. I have won several awards for my creative sewing. In the past few years I won Best of Show at the Texas State Fair twice, plus the Special Merit Award. I have also won the American Sewing Guild Creativity Contest in 2004 and 2005.

I don't need patterns and can design any wedding gown, bridesmaid, flower girl, mother's dress, or theme attire to suit your wedding attire needs. To me fabric is like clay you can shape and mold to fit each clients shape and personality. I love seeing a bride's face light up when we have created her dream gown.

We want to take this opportunity to thank Judy and the entire Just For You team for their many years of support and for helping us to create a beautiful fashion show for thousands of brides.

    We appreciate you!

    Why Track Your Leads?

How do you know if a marketing strategy is working? By tracking every lead that contacts your business and every customer you work with!

"Easier said than done!" some might say. Well it's true, tracking business can be tedious and difficult but it is essential in helping business owners determine where their marketing dollars should be spent. Many companies have well thought out campaigns to help in this effort. If you are still fine tuning your system listed below are a few ideas that might help.

    1. Ask. The first step in the process is to simply ask everyone you come in contact with, "how did you hear about us?" Train all of your employees to ask this question with every phone call, walk-in, email, etc. One idea is to tape a sign to the phone with the question typed out. This way every time an associate answers the phone they will be reminded to ask!

    2. Write it Down. With so many phone calls, emails, and meetings, it's difficult to remember anything if it is not written down. To get an accurate count of what marketing is working keep a tally of answers from the above mentioned question. There are several ways of doing this, here are a couple of suggestions:
      • When using a database, create a field for "Referred By" and note if they were referred by a friend, business, magazine, newspaper, radio ad, billboard, walk-in, bridal show, etc. In all of these be specific. Which publication? Where was the billboard? When did you hear it on the radio? What day did you go to the bridal show?
      • Keep a tally book near the telephone. On the left hand side of the page list all forms of advertising that you invested in plus room for referrals and walk-ins. Every time you ask the question, make a tally mark next to the answer.

    3. Combine Results. At the end of each day/week/month compile your answers to see what traffic different advertising methods have brought you over time. Again be specific. It is helpful to know if newspaper ads are bringing you business, it is even more helpful to know which sections of the paper are bringing the most business and what days those ads were run.

    4. Be Patient. Advertising can be unpredictable, so be sure to give your results plenty of time to see what is really working and what is not. Consistent marketing always yields better results. Doing a print ad here, bridal show there, billboard over there, and so on and so on is never going to be as successful as consistently doing the same thing over and over. The more consistent you are the more name recognition you will receive. Be careful not to jump to conclusions after a month of tallying results. It sometimes takes several months (even years) for an advertising mode to turn to dollars in the bank.

    5. Coupons. This is one method that has worked very well for us at Bridal Shows, Inc. We offer coupons in every print ad, website ad, as well as handouts. Each coupon is tagged with a code to indicate where it came from. Hence if we receive 100 coupons marked "A" we know that at least 100 brides learned about us through marketing avenue "A." Obviously Marketing through "A" is working and we should continue to use it.

These are just a few ideas to help get the wheels turning on ways to track your business. The bottom line is to do something; try something. Make sure your marketing dollars are wisely spent through the process of tracking. Happy Hunting!

These vendors will be included in 30-second commercials the week leading up to the Plano Bridal Show (18 total- rotating the vendors 50%) and have their business listed on 967TheTwister.com. This meands that each participating company will be mentioned in 9 of the 18 promos that run the week of the show.

Listeners will have one last chance to register on Sunday, September 16th at the Plano Bridal Show, and the winner will be announced that afternoon.

This is such an amazing opportunity for the Plano Bridal Show and we are proud to have opportunities such as this come our way due to our relationships with media partners and reputation as an established bridal show.

Tune in to 96.7 The Twister to hear which vendors end up participating. We will also list them in the next newsletter.

Star Community Newspaper Partners with Plano Bridal Show

Another great opportunity for the vendors at the Plano Bridal Show is being provided by Star Community Newspapers. A special supplemental Plano Bridal Show Directory will be included in the Star Community Newspapers the week leading up to the event to over 100,000 residents of Collin County. Exhibitors of the Plano Bridal Show are able to purchase ad space in the directory for a discounted rate of $100 for a 1/4 page.

The directory will also be distributed the day of the show, Sunday, September 16, to those in attendance.

We are so excited to offer our Plano Bridal Show exhibitors this additional tool to the already overwhelming value of the show.

The Urban Blossom Takes Top National Honors

The Urban Blossom is honored to announce their success at the New York International Gift Show Retailer Excellence Awards on August 12, 2007. Awarded with the gold in store design and the silver in web design, The Urban Blossom was the only retailer to be nominated and win in two categories.

Tavern on the Green in Central Park was the setting for Gifts & Decorative Accessories' annual Retailer Excellence Awards, which honor the best manufacturers, reps and retailers in the gift industry. For more than 50 years, Gifts & Decorative Accessories (and its predecessor magazines) has had the honor of rewarding national gift industry achievement with Retail Excellence Awards, the REAs. The awards were presented at a gala cosponsored by George Little Management, during New York International Gift Show.

The Urban Blossom was selected as a national finalist in two categories, Store Design and Web Design in July 2007. Marcella Vantarakis, Owner, and Shana Thomas, Co-Owner/Partner, traveled to New York City this past week to attend the gala and participate in the New York International Gift Fair.

    Naomi's Notes: "Weather the Storms"
    by:Naomi Hulme
    Naomi

Any successful business, no matter where it is located, has to make it through some tough times. Being in Texas means that we may have to deal with many real weather situations--rain, wind, hail, heat, cold, ice, maybe even tornadoes and hurricanes.

A business may have non-weather storms as well-- lack of product or service sales, changes within the industry, staff challenges, lawsuits, rising costs, the unknown.

Have you planned ahead for every aspect of your business? Be prepared and reduce your risks as much as possible.

Planning takes time and is something that is necessary for you to review and re-evaluate constantly. This will help tremendously when the storms happen.

Don't let the business storms take you by surprise.

    Testimonials and Tips

We are so pleased that our customers enjoy giving us testimonials to encourage other vendors in the industry. Please take the time to read how the bridal shows have worked for the following companies.

    Dear Naomi and Leah,

Just wanted to tell you guys how much we enjoyed working with you and the rest of the Bridal Shows, Inc. staff. You are a fun and very well-organized group, and the show generated some great buzz - and users - for our new web site. And the chance to meet other vendors we can work with has been very exciting. We are looking forward to working with you in the future!

    ~Porter Bayne

"The Dallas Bridal Show has provided businesses with the perfect opportunity to connect with brides. Not only do we get immediate bookings but months later we continue to get bookings from brides who saw us at the previous show. The staff from Bridal Shows, Inc also enhances the overall experience with their continual support and helpfulness throughout the show."

    ~Amy Warner

Thank you and your staff for helping make my first show a success! Participating in your bride show not only got my name out there, my primary objective, but I was able to obtain enough orders already to cover all costs associated with the show. I can't wait until the next opportunity to participate in your show. Thank you for including me.

    ~Sherri Correa
    Your Invited

In addition to her testimonial, Sherri Correa with Your Invited had some insightful things to say about having a successful show. Her words echo much of what we have already shared with you, but sometimes it is helpful to hear tips from a colleague as well.

"Please add the suggestion that the vendors work the brides that come by their booth. My sister and I spent a great deal of time explaining options, different products we offer and explaining how and when to order and send invitations. I noticed several vendors standing at the entrance to their booth, waiting for the brides to approach them, and then later stated that this was not working for them (the bridal show). The drawing that I conducted allowed me to get specific information from the brides, and rate them A for very hot and B for hot and so on and what they needed before the formal list was ready. I was able to continue working the list up to now following the show. It has proven a successful tip for me.

Brides attending the Plano Bridal Show on September 16 will be able to register to win the following prizes:

"I was at the Plano Bridal Show on September 16, 2007 and was so impressed with the number of brides that attended. Naomi's Notes: Life Happens
    by:Naomi Hulme
    Naomi

Have you ever had something happen that caused you to think, "It was not supposed to happen that way!"?

Life can hit us in a manner that is sometimes not so pleasant. We have two choices-we can either stay in a negative attitude toward that "something," or we can step back and look at things from a different perspective and maybe, just maybe, the outcome will even be better than we originally thought and planned for.

Be open to those unexpected events and know that, yes, they will happen.

We all have so many positive experiences every day, whether we see them or not-they are there. Be grateful for life and all of its challenges.

    Happy Anniversary!

In the past month we have celebrated two anniversaries at the Bridal Shows, Inc. office.

    James Nutt--ONE YEAR!
On August 28th James had officially been with Bridal Shows, Inc. for one year. James joined us to lead up our Wedding Industry Trade Show, just one of the many ways we try to serve the industry. He is also an Account Executive for many of the companies in our bridal shows.

Bonnie Crumpton--FIVE YEARS! Five years ago on September 17th Bonnie came to work for Naomi Hulme as a "temporary employee" and has been on board ever since. As a full-time Account Executive she manages several companies accounts with Bridal Shows, Inc. and helps bring new companies in. After five years I think it is safe to say her employment is no longer "temporary."

    A Sad Farewell

Changes are always inevitable but we are still sad to say goodbye to Leah Fitch, Account Executive for Bridal Shows, Inc.

Leah's last day with the company is Friday, September 28, so if you have a chance, call to wish her good luck in her new endeavors. Some of you may be aware that Leah is also a professional makeup artist and is looking to pursue her new business "Making up with Leah," so we are sure to still see her around in the industry.

Over the next couple of weeks we will be looking for a new Account Executive to take Leah's position. In the meantime we are all happy to help anyone that has any questions.

    Sponsoring the
    Dallas Bridal Show

Bridal Shows, Inc. is proud to announce a new partnership between Macy's and the Dallas Bridal Show. Having been an exhibitor for years, Macy's is now sponsoring the Dallas Bridal Show on January 26-27, 2008. We look forward to all the wonderful opportunities this partnership provides for both counterparts and are honored to be associated with one of the greatest most recognizable companies in America.

    A Story of Success

Hello. This is Gloria Parker, sole proprietor of Blooming Accents, a new custom floral design business. I have always loved working with flowers and knew that there was much to learn about the mechanics that make arrangements look so beautiful and professional.

So, a little more than a year ago, I decided to take a couple of weeks off from the law firm where I work full-time to attend a two-week floral design class at Texas A&M University. I got home and did a few things here and there, but not as much as I wanted to do. Where to start? How to get exposure? A friend from class secured a wedding for us in Granbury and from there I was introduced to BSI. (Bridal Shows, Inc.)

I made the decision to invest in my first show, held this past July. I was nervous about it; had never done anything like that ... was nervous about spending the money since I was not yet generating much income from the business. But I jumped out there, and the rest is history. I have to apologize to Leah and the entire BSI staff for being so dilatory in sending this testimonial, but I have been so busy since the show that I have not taken the the time to write to thank them for all the show has done for me.

Since July, I have booked 20 weddings .... 19 of them a direct result of exhibiting at the show. I have received referrals from brides I met there in July for whom I have not even done work yet. It's all very exciting. Exhibiting at BSI will be at least an annual event for me. I'd love to work all the shows, but my calendar is already full into September '08.....

Thank you, Leah, Naomi and the entire BSI staff for your help with exhibiting and all the tips regarding following up and making the most of the exposure.

    Wedding Associations

For those of you that are not already the member of one or more wedding associations, now is the time to take your business to the next level by becoming a member! Being a member of a wedding association means adding credibility to your company, spreading the word through networking, obtaining a strong list of referrals to offer your brides, educating yourself on topics important to our industry, and much more!

Take some time to research the following three associations of which we are proud members. Oh, and an added bonus of becoming a member is a discount at all of our bridal shows!

3rd Annual Wedding Industry Trade Show

Time to mark your calendars as we have secured a date for next year's Wedding Industry Trade Show. Based on some feedback, we have gone back to making the trade show a one-day event full of helpful tools to build your wedding business. The event has also been moved to the fall season to hopefully allow for more attendance. More to come on this show in upcoming newsletters so stay posted and save the date!

  • Categories are Closing!

As many of you already know, Bridal Shows, Inc. limits all of the categories in each show to create a well- balanced show. From years of experience we know that companies do not do as well if there is too many of one category in each show. Not everyone falls into a major category but the main categories are: Photography, Facility/Venue, Wedding Consultant, Videography, DJ, Catering, Cakes, Florist, Gowns, Tuxedos, Jewelry, and the list goes on.

For more specific non-wedding related categories such as Real Estate, Dental, Spa, Chiropractor, etc., the categories are limited to even smaller numbers.

Because of these limitations we are already closing out several categories in the upcoming 2008 shows. Please call us today to see if your category is still open. If you want to build your business through the shows put down a deposit as soon as possible to reserve your space because there is never any guarantee when those categories will close!

Dallas Bridal Show Sponsors Walls Walkers

Whenever possible we try to give back to our community in any way we can. This time our contributions hit closer to home.

Tracy Kopinski, Administrative Manager and Account Executive at Bridal Shows, Inc., recently teamed up with her family members to walk in the Walk to D'Feet ALS® in honor of her dad, Bill Walls. The group was named Walls Walkers and raised over $2,000 to help find a cure for ALS!

"In 2007 I will walk in honor of my dad, who is courageous in his battle with ALS. During his struggle with the debilitating effects of ALS, my dad forever inspires us with his bravery and determination. This inspiration encouraged me to join the fight against ALS." ~Tracy Kopinski

The Dallas Bridal Show was proud to sponsor the team's efforts on Saturday, October 13th in the 3 mile walk. We are all inspired not only by Bill Walls' endurance, but the strong bond of love his family shares. This too is a testament to the Walls family patriarch.

    Naomi's Notes: "Renew Your Passion"
    by: Naomi Hulme

Whether you are new in business or a long-time veteran in owning a business, it is essential to re- evaluate your goals on a consistent basis. When we first "knew" what we wanted to do, we had to plan, budget, work really hard, and keep our passion in our thoughts every day.

The first year creates new goals for the second year and so on. Once the three-year growth hump has passed, a whole new vision comes into place. When we are really serious about what we do and do things the right way, our passions can be stronger and more sincere.

Be Accountable to yourself about your passion and make sure you are on the right path. Build on your strengths and keep learning each day to grow yourself. Work on your weaknesses so that they become a great strength.

Our passion is renewed every time we have positive thoughts about our efforts. Stay confident and pursue your passion with zest so you can look back with pride and look forward to the future.

When the newsletter first began back in October of 2005 we started with less than 100 contacts that had requested a monthly newsletter, and now two years later we have 10 times that amount receiving the newsletter every month. The fact that so many of you have subscribed has been a tremendous compliment to us and proves the dedication you all have to your companies by always looking for ways to grow.

It Works IF You Work It!

Don't we all wish there was a magic pill for everything? We are always looking for a quick fix to solve our problems. Diet pills, get-rich quick schemes, winning the lottery... But in reality we know that the road to true success involves hard, nitty gritty work. This does not have to be a negative thing though, because with hard work comes the satisfaction of achieving goals and the realization that you accomplished something.

Marketing your business and reaching for new heights in the growth of your company lives by the same rules. Unfortunately some people apply the "magic pill" syndrome to bridal shows and other forms of advertisement. It would be great if all you had to do was write a check, go to a bridal show, pass out flyers, then sit back and relax waiting for the calls to come in. Although calls will inevitably come to you, as they do us all, no business can survive long-term from incoming business alone.

At Bridal Shows, Inc. we are very upfront in educating companies about the process to achieving success from a show. If you have ever read any of our newsletters before or talked to anyone here then you already know what I am about to say...you guessed it! Follow up, follow up, follow up!

It seems simple enough, but believe it or not it is something many of us our lacking. We may have good intentions to follow up, and may even do a good job of it 2-3 weeks after a show when our energy is high. However it is the long-distance runner that takes the gold here! Never give up on your follow up process no matter how busy you are.

Make a committment to yourself and your company to make a certain number of out-bound connections everyday. This means phone calls (even 5 phone calls a day can make a difference!), emails, hand-written cards, etc. Don't let the fear of rejection hold you back or discourage you, because for every 10 "no's" you will get one "yes!"

Imagine the sense of accomplishment you will feel when you reach your goal everyday and see that the money coming in is attributed to your hard work. Our goal is to bring the brides to you, and we work hard to accomplish that. What you do with the brides after the show is up to you.

Remember, there's no magic pill, and that's a good thing! Celebrate your success when you realize that it works if and when you work it.

    Dallas Show

Bridal Shows, Inc. is proud to produce the 3rd largest bridal event in the United States, the Dallas Bridal Show. Although we are pleased with our progress we are always striving to do more..which means becoming #1!

How did the Dallas Bridal Show become the 3rd largest bridal show? One major factor is our intense advertising campaign. In a very large and diverse market such as Dallas/Fort Worth we have worked hard to seek out the best formats for targeting area brides. This is an ongoing process and one we are always striving to increase every year. Companies that exhibit with Bridal Shows, Inc. can rest assured that we are putting their money to work for them in as many different and profitable methods as we can.

Currently our Dallas Bridal Show draws over 5,000 brides each year. Over 3,000 brides visit with exhibitors in our January event, and over 2,000 come to the Dallas Bridal Show in July.

Are you ready to book more weddings next year? Let us help you by introducing you to the Dallas Bridal Show brides! Call to see if your category is still open today.

    New Name for Business Conference!

After much consideration, Bridal Shows, Inc. has decided to change the name of the Wedding Industry Trade Show. The new name is...

    "Wedding Professionals Business Conference"

Each part of this new name reflects what the business conference is all about.

Wedding: The Conference was created to help those in the wedding industry. The wedding industry is compiled of talented and created individuals that are full of ambition and ready to learn.

Professionals: Professionals are business people that are serious about what they do and take steps to educate themselves in order to improve their company. The Conference is an avenue for professionals to learn and grow.

Business: Whether you are a business owner or dedicated employee, business is about the bottom line. Wedding Professionals love what they do, but they are also in business to support themselves and their families. The Conference provides the necessary tools for businesses to thrive.

Conference: The Conference is a full-day event jam packed full of seminars, discussions, exhibit booths, and networking. The definition of "conference" is the act of conferring or consulting together; especially on an important or serious matter. In business-related terms, what is more important or serious than building your business?

We are in the process of creating a new website to provide further details on next year's conference.

Make sure you mark you calendar ahead of time to be at the Conference all day. The Conference will include breakfast, a morning snack, lunch, and an afternoon snack.

    Naomi's Notes: Make a Difference
    by: Naomi Hulme

When we care about what we do, we make a difference in the world, whether we realize it at that time or not. As we all know, we are not alone. We work with so many people: our staff, suppliers, others in our own industry, building contractors, repair and maintenance, and many more. Be the best that you can be at what you do. Stay on top of the priorities each day and work on the little things as you can so that when the little things become priorities, you already have a handle on them.

Care about the big picture. What are your goals next week, next month, next year, in two years? In five years? Not just in dollars and cents, but in improving yourself and your staff. What value do you bring to your industry? Build on making that value better each month so that in a year from now, you can definitely know that you are making a difference.

We have been having weekly sales meetings for about six weeks now and are trying to keep that up forever. Because of my schedule, it has been a challenge for me over the years to accomplish sales meetings on a regular basis, but I am committed to doing so. It has already made a difference in our company and will continue to build confidence and help each one of us grow more as a team.

Set a higher standard of excellence in everything you do. Yes, it is costly in time and money and creates different rules and regulations, but think of it as necessary to improve.

Over deliver every time you have an opportunity to do so.

Thank you for making a difference in our business. We appreciate your support and caring for our industry.

    Why Bridal Shows Work

The following article was taken from www.bspishows.com, home of Bridal Show Producers International.

    1. Bridal Shows provide a lot of new prospects in a short period of time. Imagine how many potential new customers you could meet in one or two days?

    2. Bridal shows allow you to outshine the competition on the spot! Exhibiting allows your prospects and customers to immediately comparison shop. If you really have something of value, they'll know it right away. This helps you cut down the sales cycle and outshine the competition.

    3. Bridal shows allow more opportunities to demonstrate your products. Gives your potential customer the hands on opportunities so important in the sales process.

    4. Bridal shows are great relationship builders with customers. Whether the attendee is already your customer or one you would like to have as a customer, you have the opportunity to communicate with them in a non-pressured environment.

    5. Bridal shows allow you to feel the pulse of the industry. Find out what sort of products your prospects are looking for. What are the trends for the year? Take surveys that will help you make buying decisions. Meet other wedding related professionals and extend your networking group.

    6. Bridal shows help build staff morale. When your staff has the opportunity to help your company stand out in the crowd, they feel a stronger loyalty to you. We all like to be on the winning team!

    7. Bridal shows increase your bottom line! Watch your sales increase as the brides contact you after the show ready to purchase your product.

    Exhibiting 101 -- on hiatus

For the past two years we have been holding Exhibiting 101 seminars during the month of November. Unfortunately we have had to postpone the seminars until a later date.

The next Exhibiting 101 seminar will take place on April 10, 2008, at 7pm at the Special Moments Chapel in Lewisville. (248 E. Round Grove Rd., Lewisville, TX 75067)

We will be giving more information later. As in the past, seating will be limited. Once we have the website updated, you will be able to reserve the seminar.

    Thanksgiving Forecast

Turkeys will thaw in the morning, then warm in the oven to an afternoon high near 190F. The kitchen will turn hot and humid, and if you bother the cook, be ready for a severe squall or cold shoulder.

During the late afternoon and evening, the cold front of a knife will slice through the turkey, causing an accumulation of one to two inches on plates. Mashed potatoes will drift across one side while cranberry sauce creates slippery spots on the other. Please pass the gravy.

A weight watch and indigestion warning have been issued for the entire area, with increased stuffiness around the beltway. During the evening, the turkey will diminish and taper off to leftovers, dropping to a low of 34F in the refrigerator.

Looking ahead to Friday and Saturday, high pressure to eat sandwiches will be established. Flurries of leftovers can be expected both days with a 50 percent chance of scattered soup late in the day. We expect a warming trend where soup develops. By early next week, eating pressure will be low as the only wish left will be the bone.

    Grooms Cake Decorating Contest

Three years ago Ruthie Stivers with Delicious Cakes was trying to think of a way to involve her company in a stage event at the bridal shows. She wanted to involve the loyal grooms that sacrificed their weekend to taste cakes, look at flowers, and visit all the many wedding vendors at the bridal show. When she proposed a "Grooms Cake Decorating Contest" to Naomi, president of Bridal Shows, Inc. it was decided to have a trial run. The contest has proven to be such a success that at every bridal show Bridal Shows, Inc. produces you can expect to see grooms square off with icing in their hands and determination in their eyes.

"I had seen and heard of grooms cake eating competitions at shows before, but wanted to do something original...."

Ruthie explained that at first she was concerned about how the guys would do since in her opinion guys were usually awkward and clumsy when it comes to decorations. However now she feels much differently.

"Every show I am amazed at the creativity and the personality that the grooms show through decorating the cakes."

Delicious Cakes has stuck to the strict policy of "grooms only" in order to give something exclusively to the grooms in attendance. The results, as you can see from the photos, have been serious showdowns and a lot of fun for everyone involved. Next year Delicious Cakes has agreed to share the fun with a colleague, Candy Haven.

We are very thankful for all the hard work and effort that goes into making the bridal show an exciting and fun time for the grooms as well as the brides.

    Congratulations, Exhibitor Packet Winner!
    exhibitor packer

Prior to each bridal show exhibitor packets are mailed to participating vendors that contain complete information regarding set-up/take down, rules & regulations, new changes at the show, additional opportunities, order forms, and more.

Although these exhibitor packets are often lengthy they contain vital information for helping the show run smoothly.

This year we decided to reward the exhibitors that took the time to read the introductory letter to the exhibitor packet which contains a summary of all contents.

The last paragraph of the letter reads as follows:

"If you have read the exhibitor letter all the way until this point and are the first exhibitor to email info@bridalshowsinc.com with the subject saying "I read the Dallas exhibitor letter!" you will receive a twenty five dollar gift certificate to Bennigan's restaurant."

Congratulations to Christina Ganshow of LaLa Music for being the first to read her letter and send an email! Christina will have dinner on us!

Next time you receive an exhibitor packet you may want to make sure you don't miss anything, because you never know what we might do next!

Pink Books at the bridal shows!

The Pink Book is making its debut into the Dallas/Fort Worth Market as the "Ultimate Wedding Planner and Resource Guide."

Naomi's Notes: Don't Lose your Human Voice
    by: Naomi Hulme

In the current use of email, texting, blackberry, and other technology sources, the majority are losing the human voice. These advances have taken over some of us just talking and communicating. Our enthusiasm and voice inflection mean something when we are communicating with someone else. It is actually very important just as the human touch is. Be careful to not let speed and "too much to do" take the place of good communication and talking with one another.

Years ago, I had so many tell me "You will love email." To this day, I cannot say I love it. Even though it is a part of my daily routine, I would much rather talk with someone either face to face or on the phone. That way we can really be in the presence of each other and see or hear the enthusiasm or the hurt that someone is facing. There are so many needs that people have. When we really communicate, we can sense that and can maybe help with those needs. Those of you who know me well know that I really enjoy helping others and giving to others. If we never talk to someone, we don't really know them.

Communicate with someone during this Christmas season and help them feel special. It will be such a blessing to that someone else and to you.
